Software for business management - opensource and free alternatives
Many company or individuals rely on expensive softwares to run their business. What seems expensive for small company. may be a powerful tool for big sized company. I think we should respect both views. All of the paid software given at below are really powerful, I used them, it was worth to pay. But...
On my experience I noticed that big companies sometimes, due to many reasons were seem to get stuck on a project, and these opensource tools were life savers to them.
Nobody should ever think that big company are rich companies, they surely deal with big invoices to pay, but at the end they may have not made profit in a year. With this in mind, when a project manager sometime says, "We can not get this a budget" means; "find me a cheaper way to resolve it". At that point open source softwares become big help to resolve the actual situation.
For small and mid size companies, open source tools gives another kind of advantage: They can get into great project with less expenditure. But this has a lmitation: I know that for a construction company the minimum is to have autocad as tool for engineering designs, microsoft office for communication and for sharing any kind of info. Otherwise they fear of not being at the level that customers ask them to be.
But I know also that many companies tend to use illegal cracked version and they live with the fear of being caught and penalised. Is it worth it? Legally no, commercially not really. For this reason opensource is important for them. When you earn the money with the help of opensource software, get the expensive one later on, otherwise pay the opensource software to get even better experienced on this software.
Finally Opensource software are really important for students all around the world, especially for people living in defavorised countries. Opensource is a gate for equality in this world, it is a sustainable project. It maintains the sustainability in economy, so you must use them.
If open source softwares are your friend at bad times, than we should not forget them at our good times, and pay small amounts to them so as they can survive.
I am sorry to not include all the opensource softwares here. The one that I chose here, are the best according my little researches, but there may be other best that I couldn`t reach, due to many factors.
Also there is never "forever the best" for anything: what is best today can be obsolete tomorrow, so your comments and contributions are welcome.
The powerful tools like primavera. Ms project, Tableau, Turboard, are very very good, but not all companies or people have money to buy it. That is why I suggest alternatives here.
